In this free, information packed, hour-long seminar we will explore the reasons why currents in our region are so difficult to predict. We will also examine three commonly held ideas, or “myths” believed by many divers in the Northwest:

  • Myth #1: Slack current occurs at high tide and at low tide
  • Myth #2: NOAA data can always be relied on for dive planning
  • Myth #3: The current moves in one direction for the entire duration of a cycle

Even though it is difficult to calculate the right time to begin your dive, it's not impossible. We will get you on the right track by discussing dive planning tools and procedures. At the end of the seminar, you will have a healthy appreciation of the complexity of currents, a new understanding of what causes those currents, and some great tips on planning dives.
