The class lasts between 3 and 4 hours depending on the needs of the students. We will spend the first half in the classroom reviewing the following:

  • How to achieve optimal buoyancy and weighting for ease of diving
  • Safe diving procedures
  • Dive planning with regards to dive site evaluation, buddy procedures, and contingency procedures
  • Communication procedures for the surface and underwater while shore diving, boat diving, drift diving, or any other specialty activity you will be participating in
  • How to minimize your risk of decompression sickness and dive table review
  • For those who are going on vacation we will discuss how to choose a dive operator, gear rentals, and things to bring on your trip

For the next half of the class we will be in the pool covering these skills:

  • Equipment set up
  • Entry procedures
  • Buoyancy checks to determine your required weight in a variety of environments
  • Basic skills to ensure confidence in the water
  • Buoyancy fine-tuning skills
  • Self rescue procedures such as alternate air ascents, buddy breathing, in-water equipment removal and many more
  • Any other skills or procedures requested

At the conclusion of your review, your instructor will sign your log book to document you have completed the course. Please note that divers who received their original certification from any dive agency are welcome.
